Go to the Timetable Module
-
From the left navigation pane, select Generate New Timetable
-
You will be presented with the Timetable Generation Wizard. On the Teachers step, confirm that all teachers have been added and their subject combinations are correct. You can modify subject combinations by clicking the teachers subjects.
-
In the Lesson Constraints step, enter the number of single lessons and double lessons for each subject per class.
IMPORTANT: Ensure that the total number of lessons for each class does not exceed the total number of available time-slots per week.
-
On the Teacher Allocations step, select the teacher for each class for every subject.
-
The Combined Lessons step is optional. This step allows you to combine lessons that are taught together.
-
Next, you can use the Time Constraint step to select subject placement preferences. For instance, you can choose subjects that should be taught every day, the preferred days or timeslots for specific subjects, or subjects that should not follow each other on the timetable (e.g. Maths and Sciences).
-
The final step is the Generate step. In this step, you submit the lessons and constraints to our Artificial Intelligence (AI) timetable generation engine, which uses the provided constraints to place lessons on the timetable. In case the connection with the AI Engine fails, you will see a Reconnect button - click it to reconnect Skoolite with the AI Engine.
-
Press the green Start button to begin the generation process; this is an ongoing process that may take up to a minute to complete as the engine continues to move lessons around as it attempts to meet all constraints.
-
Lessons that violate any of the constraints you provided will be highlighted in a redish color, and the constraints violated are listed below the timetable.
-
Constraints are categorized into Hard constraints ( annotated by the letter H), Medium constraints (M), and Soft constraints (S). The aim is to have zero or positive scores for each of these constraint categories. A timetable with a negative Hard constraint score is marked as not Feasible.
-
While generation is on going, the Stop button will be active which allows you to stop generation.
-
After the generation time has elapsed, if there are still violations remaining, you can click the Optimize Timetable button, which takes the current timetable and tries to improve it further.
-
When you are happy with the generated timetable, you can click the Use Timetable button, which saves the timetable and it becomes your active timetable. NOTE: The AI Engine is NOT PERFECT; you may need to save the timetable, then do final modifications by hand.
